5 Weeks Plus

Yeah, I was trying to get pictures up to show the 5th week of Noah's growth and progress, but this week has been pretty busy. And I ate cheesecake and I don't think it agrees with the baby's digestive system as he was crying all day on his 5th week of life, unless he was just reliving his birth all day long. We were out of town yesterday.

Go Horns!This one's just cute.
Noah's first beer...and second beer... (We were at a Keep Austin Blue rally of some sort.)

and passing out. Uncle Abram started taking the pictures of Noah with the beer.

Well Dr. Phil is about to be on, or I could clean up the household, or do some grading..oh choices!

Big 30

Today I turn 30. I don't feel 30. I feel tired, but that's more because I have a one month old. The highlight of my day was a pedicure at a salon called Illiminada, which is an awesome salon. They serve you wine with the pedicure. How awesome is that? The lovely, sweet, wonderful Kyle gave me this gift. Most of the partying happened this weekend, which was a lot of fun - Maudie's, margaritas, red velvet cake from Whole Foods (which is delicious!!! - and fat free, naturally 8 P), hanging out at the Art Outside show on a beautiful day, seeing family, laughing about silly stuff, eating Egg Foo Young at Hao-Hao.

Today was rainey, dreary, and oh so a Monday - not a good day for partying.

Time to tend to crying baby.

4 Weeks Old

Noah's 4 weeks old today or 1 month - saying 1 seems insignificant to the 4 weeks of growing and growing. Noah today--->>>

These were taken yesterday when Noah tried out the Baby Einstein floor gym.

Noah kicked his little leg and made the gym light up and sing, and just look how happy that lizard looks at his accomplishments.

Little Cutie

A gift from Aunt Mare - getting Noah ready for his rock n' roll days. He did manage to pee on the outfit within the hour. No offense to Aunt Mare. I like the steamy dookie image on the bum of the outfit. Thanks for the outfit Auntie Mare! I loved Green Day as high school teenager, and their most recen album American Idiot is might good - "punk rock opera" - I'll have to play that for Noah sometime.

There's that car seat again, I caught a sleep smile this time.
Ahh..squeaky clean, this was after a bath in which there was a lot of screaming and crying. Then a bottle, pinks the new black, and a glance of the eyes towards the camera.
I also managed to finish a book the other day. Book Numero 2 - Shopgirl by Steve Martin. I mostly managed to finish it because if was short and to the point, yet managed to have some universal truths as far as love and relationships are concerned. I enjoyed the book, it was funny and odd, and I couldn't help but think that Steve Martin must be a horny old man. Apparently there is a movie out there about the book with Claire Danes and Steve Martin, I'll probably check that out.

I get frustrated with this blog site, seems to take soooo long to upload an image. I'd update more often if I knew I wasn't going to go crazy waiting for this thing to cooperate. Peace!

No Baby Pics

Sorry. I'm not on the right computer. But I did find this interesting note about Katie Holmes's birthing plans for the TomKat (I know it's stupid just like Bennifer, but catchy like calling South Congress - SoCo) babe. You might wonder what I was doing searching the web for Katie Holmes. Well, I was looking for pictures of pregnant Katies because she looked fat on a clip I saw on Entertainment Tonight or some other trashy show. I am intrigued when famous people get fat, and I've been watching way too much TV.

Anyways, while I was seaching I cam across the article below, and had to chuckle because I went through that whole childbirthing thingamabooper - sorta. I wonder if someone will be able to inform the public if Katie screams for an epidural. Can I get a what-what for the paparazzi?

Also what I learned from a trashy celeb show - there is a store called Bling-Bling Baby, which makes glitzy pacifiers with Swavorski crystals. I like that it's called Bling-Bling Baby, I kinda wish I'd come up with the name. Click for more info on the term Bling-Bling.

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

Katie Holmes' mission impossible will be giving birth without painkillers - or screaming. That's because her fiancé, "Mission Impossible" star Tom Cruise, is a Scientologist. Practitioners of Scientology are against drugs but insist on "silent birth" because they believe it's traumatic for babies to hear their mothers groan or cry. "Maintain silence in the presence of birth to save the sanity of the mother and the child and safeguard the home to which they will go," church founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote in his best-selling "Dianetics." That's easier to preach than practice. Another famous Scientologist, actress Kelly Preston, told Redbook magazine in 2000 that she screamed for an epidural while giving birth at home to daughter Ella. But her husband, actor John Travolta, who is also a Scientologist, didn't have time to drive Preston to the hospital. "It got hard-core at the end because she was big," Preston said of her 13-hour ordeal. Travolta later described it as a "beautiful, still experience that lovingly brings a child into the world without screaming or talking." Of course, he didn't have the baby. Scientologists also favor seven days of silence for newborns so their first week on Earth is trauma-free. But this has run afoul of state-mandated blood tests, which require at least a pinprick. Mood Swings

Little Noah has some serious mood swings.

Peaceful and quiet one moment...and one minute later wailing like a baby banshee.

Strolling

Today Noah and I went for a walk to the grocery store. He was a good boy and stayed awake the whole time, just watching the world. We also took Noah to the kite festival yesterday, which was incredibly packed with people. There was not a lot of wind thou, at least when we went. So we didn't see many kites. We watched the Oscars last night, which is a treat. It's fun to sit and talk about how awful so and so's dress looks, ie Charlize Theron, or how great a dress looks.

Here's some stroller pictures,
And Noah's favorite thing to suck on: Daddy's fingers. We have learned he needs fingers and a car seat to fall asleep at night - not a pacifiers and cradle kind of kid.

Car Seat

My little weirdo likes to sleep in his car seat more than his cradle. He'll sleep in the car seat all day and all night. We figure he can't keep doing this, it would look kind of fun to see a 20 year old sleeping in a car seat. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Me likes the precious...

Thanks Uncle Abram for the great mobile.

Rough Day

Today poor little Noah had to go to the doctor for a check up in the morning. And he also was circumsized (sp?) in the afternoon. So his morning started off with a mean ol' nurse pricking his foot to draw blood. And his evening was wrapped up with major pain to his prick...poor guy. His screaming in pain is not one of my favorite things to listen to.

On the plus side, we discovered gas medicine, which hopefully will help him sleep better at night. Way to go little guy, today was a rough one.

The day started out sooo peaceful...a little sleep..finally...he did sleep in his car seat half the night...it was a gas thing.

Then on to the doctor's office, where the first poking and prickings of the day began.

Then Noah finds out what's really going on this evening. "You're going to do WHAT to me?@?@#"

All's well that ends well, for those not getting circumsized, those giants who let this happen to poor little Noah.

Crapagon - Book 1 for 2006

Eragon - By Christopher Paolini

This book sucks and I am wasting my time writing about it. Alas, I will do so, because I am trying to keep track of the books I have read. So I guess that is a valid enough reason. Sure the author was 17 years old when he wrote the book, that's pretty evident.

I don't appreciate his plot tactic which causes the main character to faint everytime there is a major transition in the story. The dialog is dull. The story idea started off interesting enough, but his pacing was not great - too fast at time, too slow at others.

I had to force my self to finish it. I am not the best at finishing things. I'm great at starting new projects, books, etc...I am working on finishing things up. AndI did it with this book - eeegads was it pure torture.

I like how this one amazon reviewer summoned up the book:

"Overuse, and improper use, of language - no stars
Boring, one dimensional characters - no stars
Boring one dimensional and repetitive plot devices - no stars
Absence of originality, but the weyrcat pretty cool anyway - one star
Brom/Eragon relationship okay - one star
Eragon/Arya relationship (with yucky adolescent wet dreams) - MINUS one star.
Getting me to read The Eye of the Wheel - 3 stars
Having my husband leave me annoying voice mail in a deep raspy voice saying "I love you little one" - 5 stars
And that adds up to one star. No Paolini in my future."

This is a great book if you need something to put you to sleep. Unfortunately for me, we bought the second book before we finished the 1st one...I'm worried I might pick it up.......ack.....toliet paper perhaps?

Apples

Did you know there are over 7,500 know cultivators of the apple? I really like apples, and I have taken to trying and buying a different apple each week we go to Central Market. Central Market has about 15 different types of apple. I was a regular buyer of the Granny Smith apple. But I have challenged myself to try some different apples, the Grannies can get tiresome.

Recently I have tried:

Pink Lady Apples - These apples are firm with a sweet and sour flavoring. I am of fan of crispy, crispy sweet apples. So lo and behold this is not one of my more favorite apples. It would receive a 7 or 8 on my apple meter. "This is a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Lady William."

Jazz Apples - Apparently this is an apple created in New Zealand, bred from a Royal Gala and Braeburn apple. I LOVE this apple, it is sweet, juicy, and crunchy-crispy. MMMM!! It reminds me of Honeycrisp Apples - another lovely little apple, that is sweet and super crispy. "Taste: Jazz begins with a sweet Gala rush that carries over to a tangy effervescence. Its crispness and crunch are unbeatable." A 10 ++ apple!

Rome Beauty - This apple was boring. It had little flavor and it was way too soft for my tastes. Upon researching it on the net I have learned this apple is "primarily a cooking apple" and its "flavor enhances with a touch of sugar or honey." A little history on the Rome Beauty: "A tree planted in Rome, Ohio, in the 1820s, sent up a shoot from below the graft-the part of the tree that is not supposed to bear fruit. Orchardists generally lop these unwanted shoots off, but this branch survived to bear beautiful red fruit." While deciptively beautiful, it's still crap. Maybe I'll have to try it with some honey and sugar. For it fails my apple test - I'll give it a 1 - because I'll give it one more chance with some honey.

Law School #1

We heard back from one law school today - it was a yes from the University of Texas. While Kyle considers this his "fall back school", I was very excited and proud that he got in to UT. I'm not going to law school just living vicariously through Kyle. And I say we because what ever decision he makes on where to go to law school includes the both of us - so I'm moving where ever he goes.

Now we wait for the other 4 to reply: Yale, Northwestern, University of Michigan, & Columbia. The waiting game sucks!!!

Hook-em Horns!!!!!! NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!

THE MAN!!!

I didn't stay up the whole time, because I kept thinking how 5th period would break me if I didn't get enough sleep. I was woken up at midnight by people screaming around our complex...so we guessed they won. And due to the awesome view we have of downtown A-town, we were able to assess the glowing orange UT tower - which signfies VICTORY!!!

The Longhorns are In-VINCE-able!!!

Adios 2005

I finished:

Book #10 - A Feast for Crows - George R.R. Martin
The fourth book in the Fire and Ice epic - it was somewhat satisfying. (It took me a month to read, Kyle finished it in like 3 days.) I say somewhat because, if you know anything about the series, it left out the perspectives of some of my favorite characters. Also, I feel like Martin can get over detailed in the political aspects of the world. Still a very colorful book, I love his description of the world.

What's up with me reading 10 books in 12 months? That's pretty sad if you ask me...maybe I should start including comic books. I'm going to read new books in the New Year, somehow, someway, and I'm counting kid books because I'll probably reading a lot of those.

I wish there was someway to scan my brain to recall memories. I'm looking for a song that I heard on a compilation cd. I can't remember the name of the artist, the name of the song, or how it goes, thus it is driving me nuts. Sometime if I think enough about something, it'll come back to me...but nothing so far on the matter as been sparked. ACK!!!

Happy 5th night of Hannukah!

Going's ons

Lucky central Texans can't drive in icy weather! Cuz today we had a bad weather day, and that meant going out for lunch and shopping time...whohoo!

What I have been up to lately:

-I have discovered scrapbooking...which is already highly addictive. The little sticker kits are sooo cute. Look at those tiny little grilling tools. It also gives me something to do with all the knick knacks I save from trips, like tickets, other random things, even rocks sometime (I picked up some cool rocks in Dover, England...not that those would fit in a scrapbook, but who knows.) Anyone sticker collect back in the early 80s? Remember those scratch n' sniff stickers? Aww, those were cool. Now I can use my childhood skills of collecting crap on artistic scrapbook pages. I'm working on putting together pictures from our Chicago trip.

-finishing up the 2nd season of Scrubs.
Funny stuff!!!!

-trying to finish A Feast for Crows - which has been slow going because of work and exhaustion and all that good stuff.

and pretty much just general loafing.

We did see The Aristocrats - which has been quoted as being the "The feel good movie made out of fecal matter". This movie goes to all parts of "over there" that I never knew existed. I'm find I am still a young jedi in this realm of disgustingness. The documentary did give me some ideas though to incorporate. I don't recommend seeing this movie while eating.

The baby continues to grow and grow. We started childbirth classes. I was pretty scared after watching a video in the first one. The talks of pain and labor length have continued in subsequent classes. But I guess it's better to know what is going on that not to know, right?

Ack, school tomorrow! Boooooooooooo 8 (
